Jump Scare Horror Templates
Create jump scare horror games with Summer Engine. Get inspired by templates below, or start from scratch with AI.
Jump scare horror is built around the spike: the sudden reveal that makes you flinch. It works on timing and misdirection, lulling the player into safety before the sting hits, and the craft is in the buildup as much as the payoff, since a scare only lands when the player has let their guard down.
A template gives you that timing toolkit: a first-person or fixed-camera controller, triggerable scare events with sound and visuals, controllable lighting, an audio system for tension and the sting, and proximity or trigger volumes. With Summer Engine, the AI game engine compatible with Godot 4, you stage the scares by describing them: ask for a figure that appears when you turn around, a door that slams as you pass, a quiet stretch before the hit, or a fake-out that resets the tension, and the AI wires the triggers and audio with you while you play to make sure each scare is set up and timed to land.
