Blender MCP for games
Blender MCP for games, from a bpy script to a model in your scene
The community Blender MCP lets an agent drive an open Blender session. Summer's summer_fabricate_3d runs a bpy script in your own Blender, exports a GLB and imports it straight into the game. Here is when each fits, and what survives the trip into an engine.
The short answer
The best known Blender MCP is the community MCP for Blender by ahujasid (MIT, formerly blender-mcp), which connects Claude, Cursor, Codex and other clients to a live Blender session through an add-on. Blender Lab also publishes an experimental MCP server for Blender 5.1 and newer. For games, Summer adds summer_fabricate_3d, an MCP tool that runs a bpy script headless in the Blender you installed (4.2 LTS or newer), exports a .glb, imports it into your Summer project and can place it in the open scene. Summer never bundles, downloads or brands Blender.
Blender through MCP is one of the most popular things people do with an AI client, and for good reason. Blender's Python API can build almost anything, and an agent writes bpy quickly. The trouble starts when the asset is for a game. A model that looks right in Blender can arrive in the engine at the wrong scale, lying on its side, with a grey material or a missing piece.
So the useful question is not whether an agent can drive Blender. It is whether the result lands in your game correctly, and whether the agent can check that it did.
This page covers the community Blender MCP and Blender Lab's official experiment with sources, then explains how Summer's fabricate tool closes the gap between a bpy script and a placed, verified asset in a game scene. It also covers the asset types where Blender scripting is the wrong tool.
What it does
MCP for Blender, the community server
An add-on starts a socket server inside Blender and a Python MCP server connects to it. Your agent inspects the scene, creates and edits objects, applies materials and can run any Python. It also pulls assets from Poly Haven, Sketchfab and Poly Pizza and generates models through Hyper3D Rodin and Hunyuan3D.
Blender Lab's MCP server
Blender's own Lab publishes an experimental MCP add-on for Blender 5.1 and newer, aimed at scene analysis, documentation and exploring complex setups. Blender warns that it runs model generated code with no guards and suggests a virtual machine.
summer_fabricate_3d
Summer's tool runs your agent's bpy script headless in your own Blender, supervised by the Summer engine. The engine exports the objects to .glb, imports the file into the project and can instantiate it into the open scene at a target size.
Export rules handled for you
The engine's export step applies modifiers, realizes Geometry Nodes, converts to the engine's Y up axis and bakes a procedural Base Color to a 2K texture. Hidden objects are treated as boolean cutters or guides and are left out, and the result lists them.
Checked in the game, not in Blender
After import the agent verifies with a snapshot diff and a screenshot of the scene, and the result reports dimensions, triangle counts, warnings and skipped objects. Scale and orientation problems show up before you look.
Your Blender, your output
Blender is a dependency you install. Summer runs it as a separate process and never ships it. Blender's licence page says what you create with Blender is your sole property and not covered by the GPL.
How it works
- 1
Step 1: Install Blender and Summer
Install Blender 4.2 LTS or newer from blender.org and the free Summer desktop app, then connect your agent with
npx -y summer-engine@latest setup claude-code --yes. Summer finds Blender on the usual paths, or setSUMMER_BLENDER_BIN. - 2
Step 2: Ask for the asset with real dimensions
Describe pieces in metres, for example a 2 m wall segment with a door cutout. The agent writes a bpy script that creates named mesh objects and leaves them in the scene without exporting.
- 3
Step 3: Let the engine export and import
summer_fabricate_3d runs the script with a default budget of 120 seconds, writes
res://assets/fabricated/<name>.glband imports it. Only one fabrication runs at a time per editor. - 4
Step 4: Verify and iterate
The agent reads the result, takes a snapshot diff and a screenshot, then fixes the script if a piece is missing, a material came back grey or the scale is wrong.
Two ways to run it
In Studio, or from the agent you already use
In Summer Studio
For characters and organic props, generate instead of scripting. The 3D tab in Studio makes a textured GLB from text or images with Hunyuan 3D, Meshy, Rodin or Tripo, and fabrication can decimate, unwrap or bake it afterwards.
Open the 3D tab in StudioFrom Claude, Cursor or Codex via MCP
summer_fabricate_3d is a local engine tool, so the Summer desktop app must be open with a project loaded. The fabricating-assets skill, currently marked preview, gives the agent the bpy rules, recipes and every failure reason.
Example prompt for your agent
Use summer_fabricate_3d to build a modular dungeon kit in my Blender. Make a 2 m by 3 m wall, a wall with a doorway, a corner and a 2 m floor tile on one grid with one stone material, import them, place one of each near the origin and show me a screenshot.Set up the Summer MCP
| Option | Maker | Blender version | How it works | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| MCP for Blender | ahujasid, community | 3.0 or newer | Add-on socket server in an open Blender, Python MCP server run with uvx | Arbitrary Python through execute_blender_code; socket has no authentication, keep it on localhost; sends a minimal anonymous usage record unless DISABLE_TELEMETRY=true |

Fabrication runs in your own Blender on your machine, and engine tools through the MCP are free. The rows above are for generating a model to post-process or to use directly.
Prices are charged from your Summer usage balance. Generating assets needs a paid plan or a top-up: Pro is $20 a month and includes $20 of usage, and top-ups start at $10. The desktop engine itself is free to download.

Prompts that work, and what comes back
The three jobs where scripting Blender beats generation or a library download, plus one where it does not.
Modular kit
Prompt
Build pipe pieces on a 1 m grid, straight, elbow, tee and cap, bevelled, with one metal material.
What you get
Four named pieces that share dimensions and material, imported as GLB files that snap on the same grid.
Shatter pieces for VFX
Prompt
Split a 1 m crate into about 12 pieces with bisect cuts and a fixed seed so I can swap it in when the crate breaks.
What you get
A set of fragment meshes in one GLB, repeatable because the script uses a fixed seed.
Clean up a generated model
Prompt
Decimate my generated statue to 20K triangles, unwrap it and bake the colour to a texture, then replace the original in the scene.
What you get
A lighter mesh with a baked Base Color texture, placed where the old one was, with the triangle count reported.
LOD chain
Prompt
Make three LOD versions of the rock model at 100, 40 and 10 percent of the triangles.
What you get
Three meshes from one script with triangle counts in the result. For a Godot 4 compatible project you often do not need them, because glTF imports generate mesh LODs automatically. Hand-made variants belong in visibility ranges, or in another engine's LOD group.
A character
Prompt
Model a knight with armour in Blender.
What you get
The wrong tool. Scripted organic modelling is the documented failure mode. Use summer_generate_3d, then fabricate only to clean it up.
When to use which
Use the community Blender MCP when you work inside Blender and want an assistant at your side. You watch the viewport, you can undo, and the asset integrations are handy for set dressing a Blender scene.
Use summer_fabricate_3d when the asset is for a game and has to arrive correct. The engine does the export, the import and the placement, and the agent checks the result in the game scene. That removes the usual round trip of exporting, importing, fixing the axis, rescaling and reassigning materials.
Where Blender scripting is the wrong tool
Scripted Blender is strong for hard surface kits, VFX meshes and post-processing. It is weak for characters and anything organic, where an agent working blind produces lumpy results. For those, generate the model, then fabricate only to decimate, unwrap or bake. For a generic barrel or crate, search the asset library first. For a quick blockout, in-engine primitives are faster than starting Blender at all.
Safety and licensing
Every Blender MCP route runs code an AI wrote on your machine. The community server says so plainly and asks you to save your work first, and Blender Lab recommends a virtual machine. Summer's tool runs a supervised headless process with a time budget and can take a SummerGit checkpoint before the run so you can rewind.
Blender stays yours. Summer does not bundle, download or install it, and if Blender is missing the tool returns blender_not_found with the paths it checked instead of installing anything. The meshes you make belong to you, and a GLB in your project carries no Blender licence obligation.
Using fabricated assets outside Summer
The output is a standard .glb file in your Summer project, so you can copy it into Unity, Unreal or any engine that reads glTF. The fabrication itself still runs through the Summer desktop app, since the engine supervises Blender and performs the export.
Frequently asked questions
What is Blender MCP?
A Model Context Protocol server that lets an AI client such as Claude Code, Cursor, Codex or Antigravity operate Blender through tools. The most used one is the community MCP for Blender by ahujasid, whose README covers setup for each of those clients. Blender Lab publishes an experimental official server for Blender 5.1 and newer.
How do I connect Claude Code to Blender?
For the community server, install uv, run claude mcp add blender uvx mcp-for-blender, install the add-on with uvx mcp-for-blender install-addon, then press N in the 3D viewport and click Start MCP Server. For Summer, install the Summer desktop app and Blender 4.2 LTS or newer, run npx -y summer-engine@latest setup claude-code --yes, and ask Claude to use summer_fabricate_3d.
Is the community Blender MCP official?
No. Its README calls it a third party integration not made by Blender. The repository is now ahujasid/mcp-for-blender and the PyPI package was renamed from blender-mcp to mcp-for-blender, with the old command still working.
Does Summer include Blender?
No. summer_fabricate_3d uses the Blender you installed, version 4.2 LTS or newer. Summer never bundles, downloads or brands it, and it never installs Blender on your behalf.
Why did my material come back grey?
glTF stores one metallic roughness PBR material per surface, and the exporter builds it from a Principled BSDF node. Other shaders arrive grey or black, and procedural channels other than Base Color are not baked. The fabricate result lists each case in its warnings.
Can I use summer_fabricate_3d without the Summer engine?
No. It is a local engine tool, so the Summer desktop app must be open with a project. You can copy the resulting .glb into another engine afterwards.
Should I script characters in Blender through MCP?
Usually not. Scripted organic modelling is where agents do worst. Generate the character with summer_generate_3d, rig it, and use fabrication only to clean up the mesh.
Can I run the community Blender MCP and Summer together?
Yes. MCP clients accept several servers. Use the community server for interactive work in Blender and Summer's tool when the asset needs to land in the game.
