Choice-Based Narrative Templates

Create choice-based narrative games with Summer Engine. Get inspired by templates below, or start from scratch with AI.

A choice-based narrative hands the player real authorship over the story. At key moments you pick from options, and those decisions ripple outward, changing dialogue, relationships, and which ending you reach. The appeal is agency: the sense that the story is yours because it remembers what you chose.

A strong base is a dialogue and scene system with branching choices, variables and flags that track decisions, branches that diverge and sometimes reconverge, multiple endings, and save and load. The craft is in choices that feel meaningful, where the player can sense, even without seeing the code, that a decision mattered.

With Summer Engine, the AI game engine compatible with Godot 4, you shape that story by describing it: ask for a choice that locks a character out of a later scene, a flag that unlocks a hidden ending, dialogue that shifts based on a past decision, or a branch that rejoins the main path, and the AI wires the script, variables, and branching with you while you play through your own routes to make sure each choice carries weight.
