Summer Voice
Privacy and trust.
Summer Voice listens while you hold the key. It sees your screen only while you circle something. What it keeps stays on your Mac. No creepy stuff.
Three things to know.
Your screen, only when you circle
Summer Voice sees your screen only while you hold Control and circle something. Never in the background.
Your history stays on your Mac
Dictations, recordings and settings live on your Mac. Summer Voice never syncs or uploads them.
We do not keep your words
Audio goes to Summer only to become text. We do not store your recordings or transcripts on our servers.
What stays on your Mac.
Nothing on this list is synced or uploaded.
History
Your recent dictations, so you can find a prompt again. They stay on your Mac until you delete them.
Recordings
A copy of each recording, so a failed dictation can be tried again. Deleted after seven days, or sooner: you choose immediately, a day, a week, a month or never.
Screenshots
When you hold Control and circle something, the screenshot waits in a temporary folder so your words can point to it, and is deleted after a day.
Settings and sign-in
Your keys, words and choices stay in your Mac's settings. Your Summer sign-in stays in the macOS Keychain.
The clipboard
To paste, Summer Voice puts your text on the clipboard for a moment, presses ⌘V and puts back what was there.
What leaves it, and why.
Only what a request needs, only to the service that does the work.
Your audio
Goes to Summer's speech service only to be turned into text. We do not store your recordings or transcripts on our servers.
Text for actions
For ⌘E, the text you selected goes to Summer with the action. Never your window, your documents or a screenshot.
Ask Summer
Your words, and anything you circled, go to Summer's agent as a chat message, the same as typing it in Summer.
Usage counts
Simple counts, like how often you dictate, so we can make Summer Voice better. Never your words, screenshots or window titles. Turn them off in Settings, under Privacy.
Permissions, and why.
macOS asks you when you turn Summer Voice on, or the first time you use a feature that needs it. You can take any permission back in System Settings.
Microphone
To hear you while you hold the talk key or keep it on hands-free. Summer Voice listens only then.
Accessibility
To notice the Fn key from any app, to read the text you selected for ⌘E, and to paste into the app you are in.
Screen Recording
Only for circling. Summer Voice sees your screen only while you hold Control and circle something, never in the background. Asked the first time you do it.
Built to be careful.
Never in the background
Summer Voice does not watch your screen, read other apps' data or listen when you have not asked it to.
Local connection only
Its connection to Summer listens on your own computer only (127.0.0.1). The Summer engine proves itself with a secret only your user account can read; pages must come from summerengine.com.
Signed builds
The Summer Voice that comes with Summer is signed and notarized by Apple, so macOS knows it is ours and untouched.
