Summer Brand Guidelines
Effective date: September 28, 2026
The short version
- Creators who export games made with Summer Engine (including to Steam) may, and are encouraged to, display the "Made with Summer" and "Built with Summer Engine" badges in the exact formats below, free of charge, without asking.
- Use official logo files from our press kit, keep the clear space, and never modify, recolor or distort the marks.
- Do not use "Summer" as the leading element of your game, studio or company name, and never put our marks in your domain names or app titles. Plain descriptive references are fine.
- Never imply that Summer endorses, publishes or is partnered with you unless we have signed an agreement saying so.
- Being Featured on Summer Games is promotion, not approval. You may say in plain text that your Game was Featured; you may never use "Summer approved" or any approval stamp, and the Summer Originals label is for Summer's own content only.
- When you talk about Sparks or the Creator Program, use our words. Never call Sparks money, and never describe what Creators receive from us as anything other than Program Payments.
- This permission is a revocable license; we can revoke it if the rules are broken.
- Player terms, privacy and refund policies live at summer.games.
1. Purpose and scope
1.1 What these Guidelines are. These Summer Brand Guidelines (these "Guidelines") govern use of the names, logos, wordmarks, badges and other brand assets of Summer, the Platform and the Engine (the "Summer Marks") by Creators, Players, press, partners and the public. They are issued and administered by Summer Labs, Inc., a Delaware corporation ("Summer", "we", "us"), 2810 N Church St, STE 89812, Wilmington, DE 19802, United States. The Summer Marks are owned by Summer Labs, Inc. or its affiliates; Summer Labs, Inc. administers every permission under these Guidelines and is the only entity you deal with.
1.2 Relationship to other documents. Capitalized terms not defined here have the meanings given in the Summer Dictionary. Fan-made creative works are governed by the Fan Content Policy; where these Guidelines and that policy overlap on trademark and logo questions, these Guidelines control. Distribution of Exported Games is governed by the Exported Game Runtime License; use of the Editor by the Summer Engine Desktop EULA; developer integrations by the Developer Tooling and API Terms.
1.3 These Guidelines are a license. Where these Guidelines say a use is permitted, that permission is a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, revocable trademark license, conditioned on full compliance. All use of the Summer Marks inures to the benefit of the owner of the marks; no goodwill vests in you.
2. The Summer Marks
2.1 Covered marks. The Summer Marks include: (a) the word marks "Summer Games", "Summer Engine", "Summer Passport", "Summer Creator Program" and "Sparks" (as the name of the official currency of Summer Games; the currency's display name is a working name and these Guidelines apply to any renamed license); (b) the word "Summer" when used to refer to the Platform, the Engine or Summer Labs, Inc.; (c) the Summer logo and logomark in all approved variants [FINAL LOGO ASSETS TO BE ATTACHED AS EXHIBIT A]; (d) the badge marks in Section 4 ("Made with Summer", "Built with Summer Engine", "Play on Summer Games"); and (e) mascot names and designs, product icons and distinctive trade dress of the Platform and Editor [MASCOT NAMES TO BE CONFIRMED]. The Summer Marks also include the first-party label "Summer Originals" [WORKING NAME] and any Featured placement lockup Summer publishes. These identify Summer Originals (Games and items published on Summer Games by Summer or its affiliates, which are not User Content) or Summer's editorial promotion of a published Game or item; no Creator may apply them to User Content.
2.2 Trademark status. Some Summer Marks are registered and others are the subject of pending applications or common-law rights. Summer marks an unregistered Summer Mark with the TM symbol and uses the R symbol only for a mark that is registered in the country concerned; the current status of each Summer Mark is listed in the Press Kit. Follow any marking instructions published in the Press Kit. Absence of a symbol is not a license to treat a mark as free for use.
3. General rules for every use
3.1 Use only official asset files downloaded from the press kit at [PRESS KIT URL] (the "Press Kit"). Do not redraw, trace, screenshot or recreate the marks.
3.2 Use the Summer Marks only to refer truthfully to Summer, the Platform, the Engine or your Game's factual relationship to them.
3.3 Do not state or imply sponsorship, endorsement, certification, publishing, partnership or official affiliation with Summer unless a signed written agreement says so.
3.4 The Summer Marks must never be the most prominent element of your product, packaging, store page or marketing. Your own brand must be more prominent than any Summer Mark.
3.5 Do not use the Summer Marks in connection with content or conduct that violates the Summer Games Community Standards, or with gambling, tobacco, weapons, adult entertainment, political campaigning, cryptocurrencies or NFTs, or any unlawful activity.
3.6 Do not use the Sparks name or iconography in connection with any purported sale, trade, conversion or payment of Sparks, Earned Sparks, Game Points, Virtual Content or Passport Items, or in any manner implying they are money, have equivalent value in real currency, or can be traded, moved between Users or used outside the Platform. [RESERVED, no effect until published active and activation on the Fee and Rates Schedule: where Summer has activated a Linked Build, truthful store copy for that Linked Build may state that Sparks are spendable in that build; it may never offer Sparks for sale, show a price for Sparks or link to a purchase page.]
3.7 Do not register, or attempt to register, any Summer Mark or anything confusingly similar as a trademark, service mark, business name, domain or design anywhere in the world.
3.8 If Summer has Featured your Game or item, you may state in plain text that it was Featured on Summer Games. You may not present Featuring as a review, approval, certification, quality seal or endorsement of your content or of its rights status; you may not use "Summer approved" or any approval stamp, patch, badge or seal; and you may not describe your Game or item as approved, certified or vetted by Summer. Featured has the meaning given in the Summer Dictionary: editorial promotion of a published Game or item, which does not change your responsibilities or Summer's role as a hosting provider. The "Summer Originals" label [WORKING NAME] identifies Games and items published on Summer Games by Summer or its affiliates (Summer Originals are not User Content, and Summer is responsible for them as their author); it identifies Summer's own content, is not an approval of any User Content and may not be applied to User Content.
4. The badges
4.1 Who may use the badges. Any Creator in good standing may use the badge marks, free of charge and without prior approval, in digital materials in connection with a Game that was genuinely created with the Engine or published on the Platform, including Exported Games distributed off-Platform, on Steam and other storefronts, subject to the Exported Game Runtime License. Offline uses (billboards, print, television, physical packaging) and commercial merchandise require written approval under Section 11.
4.2 Approved text formats. Use exactly one of the following strings, unmodified, with capitalization exactly as shown: (a) "Made with Summer"; (b) "Built with Summer Engine"; (c) "Play on Summer Games" (for Games published on the Platform). Where space permits, append: "Summer, Summer Games, Summer Engine, Sparks and the Summer logo are trademarks or registered trademarks of Summer Labs, Inc. or its affiliates in the United States and other countries."
4.3 Approved visual lockups. The Press Kit contains the approved badge lockups (horizontal and stacked; light and dark). Use them as provided. If you cannot use a graphic badge, use an approved text format.
4.4 Placement. Permitted placements include your Game's splash or boot screen; credits; Steam or other storefront page; trailers and promotional videos (for example an end card); your Game's website; and social posts about your Game. The badge must appear as a factual technology attribution, not as a publisher credit, co-branding or quality seal.
4.5 Badge conditions. (a) Do not animate, distort, recolor or add effects to lockups. (b) Do not place a badge so that it appears part of your own logo or title. (c) Do not use a badge on a game not actually made with the Engine or Platform. (d) Do not use a badge on content that violates Section 3.5, and remove it from any Game removed from the Platform for violations of the Summer Games Community Standards. (e) Third-party storefront naming rules are your responsibility.
4.6 Godot compatibility statements. Summer Engine is compatible with Godot 4. You may make truthful plain-text compatibility statements (for example "compatible with Godot 4 projects"). Godot and the Godot logo are trademarks of the Godot Foundation (Stichting Godot) and are not licensed by these Guidelines; Summer Engine is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Godot Foundation. Follow the Godot Foundation Trademark Policy.
5. Logo usage rules
5.1 Use only logo files from the Press Kit, in the color variants provided. 5.2 Maintain clear space around the logo on all sides equal to at least the height of the capital "S" in the wordmark (or, for the standalone logomark, at least 50 percent of its height). 5.3 Do not render the wordmark smaller than 24 pixels on screen or 6 millimeters in print, or the logomark smaller than 16 pixels or 4 millimeters; below these sizes use a text reference. 5.4 Do not stretch, compress, rotate, skew, recolor, outline, shadow, crop, combine with other words or logos to form a new mark, use as letters inside your own words, or animate except as official motion assets provide. 5.5 Do not place a Summer logo side by side with your logo in a lockup, separator-bar arrangement or "x" collaboration format, or otherwise imply co-branding, absent a signed agreement.
6. Naming rules for games, studios, apps, domains and handles
6.1 Games and studios. Do not use "Summer" or any other Summer Mark as the leading element of the name of a game, studio, company or product, and do not use a name that implies official status or is confusingly similar to a Summer Mark. "Summer Quest Studios", "SummerCraft" and "Official Summer Games Arena" are prohibited; "Lakeside Games" presenting "Lakeside Quest, made with Summer" is correct; "A Long Summer" for a game about a summer holiday is fine because the word is used in its ordinary meaning and not as a reference to Summer.
6.2 Domains and apps. Do not use any Summer Mark, or a confusingly similar term, in a domain or subdomain you control, or in the title or publisher name of an app or software product on any store.
6.3 Social media handles and communities. Fan and community accounts must make unofficial status obvious in the handle or display name (for example "@SummerGamesFanHub (Unofficial)") and must not use official logos as avatars. Accounts presenting as official Summer accounts will be reported to the relevant platform.
6.4 Descriptive references. You may use plain-text descriptive phrases stating a factual relationship, such as "a level editor tool for Summer Engine" or "a companion app for Summer Games", provided the phrase is not part of your product's proper name or logo and Section 3.4 is respected.
6.5 Transition period for new naming rules. If Summer introduces a naming rule after your Game, studio or product was named in compliance with the then-current Guidelines, the new rule applies to you only after a transition period of at least 180 days from the date the rule is published. Summer may shorten that period only where earlier cessation is required by (a) a court order, legal process or a law enforcement or regulatory request or requirement, (b) a notification of claimed infringement from a third party that Summer in good faith considers credible, or (c) a change in applicable law; in each case Summer gives you written notice and the shortest period the legal risk allows.
7. Referring to Summer in text
7.1 Use the marks as proper adjectives with correct capitalization: "the Summer Games platform", "Summer Engine", "Sparks". Do not use them as verbs, do not pluralize them, and do not use possessive forms of the marks themselves.
7.2 Write "Sparks" exactly that way when referring to the official currency of Summer Games; do not abbreviate, rename or restyle it. Never describe Sparks or Earned Sparks with any word for money or for a place money is kept; never say that Sparks can be turned into money, sent to another person or used outside the Platform; and describe what Creators receive only as "Program Payments" under the "Summer Creator Program" at the "Creator Rate". Where you name the payment processor, say "payments powered by Stripe" for purchases on Summer's web checkout; for an App Store Purchase say "billed by Apple". Never describe Apple or Stripe as the merchant of record or the seller of record for Sparks. [RESERVED, no effect until published active and activation on the Fee and Rates Schedule: where Summer has activated a Linked Build, truthful store copy for that Linked Build may state that Sparks are spendable in that build; it may never offer Sparks for sale, show a price for Sparks or link to a purchase page. Same reserved clause as Section 3.6.]
7.3 On first prominent reference in formal materials, follow the trademark-symbol guidance in the Press Kit and, where space permits, include the attribution string in Section 4.2: "Summer, Summer Games, Summer Engine, Sparks and the Summer logo are trademarks or registered trademarks of Summer Labs, Inc. or its affiliates in the United States and other countries."
8. Press, media and editorial use
8.1 Journalists, reviewers, academics and commentators may use the Summer Marks in editorial and news contexts to identify and discuss Summer, the Platform and the Engine without separate permission, provided the use is truthful, does not imply endorsement, and follows Section 5 for any logo use. Press releases that name Summer as a partner or publisher require approval under Section 11; press releases that merely state a Game is made with or available on Summer do not.
8.2 The Press Kit contains approved logos, screenshots, badge lockups, boilerplate and press contact information. Screenshots and video capture of the Platform and Editor may be used in editorial coverage.
8.3 Books, courses and analyst reports about Summer may use the word marks referentially on covers and in titles only in descriptive phrasing that makes independence clear (for example "An Unofficial Guide to Summer Engine"), never with a Summer Mark as the first word, never with the logo, and with "UNOFFICIAL" on the cover or landing page. In addition, the Summer Mark must be less prominent than the rest of the title, and the work must carry a disclaimer stating that it is an independent publication that has not been authorized, sponsored or approved by Summer Labs, Inc. Educational institutions and libraries engaged in non-profit instruction and research may do the same without approval.
9. Prohibited uses
Without a signed written agreement with Summer, you may not: 9.1 use any Summer Mark on merchandise or physical goods offered for sale, or on packaging, retail displays or in services; 9.2 use any Summer Mark in film, television, books (other than as Section 8.3 allows), stage productions, theme parks or comparable media; 9.3 use any Summer Mark in paid advertising keywords or ad copy in a manner that implies you are Summer or an official partner; 9.4 use any Summer Mark in connection with the sale, trade, conversion or movement between Users of Accounts, Sparks, Earned Sparks, Game Points, Virtual Content or Passport Items; 9.5 use any Summer Mark on or in another game engine, platform or competing service in a comparative manner that is false or misleading; 9.6 use any Summer Mark in connection with cheats, exploits, bots, scrapers or tools that violate the Summer Games Terms of Service or the Developer Tooling and API Terms; 9.7 use any Summer Mark in domain names, entity names or app titles (Section 6); 9.8 mint, sell or promote NFTs or blockchain tokens using any Summer Mark; or 9.9 use any Summer Mark in a way that disparages Summer or tarnishes the marks, as distinct from lawful criticism that does not misuse the marks as source identifiers.
10. Community and fan use
Creative fan works (fan art, videos, streams, cosplay, community events) are governed by the Fan Content Policy, which grants its own permissions and requires a disclaimer for content based on Summer's own IP. These Guidelines continue to govern any use of logos, badges, names in domains and titles, and endorsement questions within fan works.
11. Uses that need written approval
Write to support@summerengine.com with a description of the proposed use, mockups and the distribution plan for: offline promotion (billboards, print, television, physical signage); commercial merchandise and physical goods; film, television, books beyond Section 8.3, stage or theme-park uses; co-branding, partnership or sponsorship claims; press releases naming Summer as a partner or publisher; entity or product names incorporating a Summer Mark; and anything you are unsure about. Silence is not consent; a use is permitted only if these Guidelines permit it or we approve it in a signed writing. Unsolicited requests for commercial merchandise or logo licenses are not ordinarily granted.
12. Termination and revocation of permission
12.1 Summer may revoke or modify any permission under these Guidelines at any time, in whole or in part, as to any person or use, with or without cause or notice. This Section 12 governs revocation of permission as to a particular person or use; changes to the rules themselves follow Section 6.5 and Section 14. 12.2 Your permission terminates automatically if you breach these Guidelines, the Summer Games Terms of Service, the Exported Game Runtime License or the Summer Engine Desktop EULA in a manner related to your use of the Summer Marks. 12.3 On revocation or termination you must stop the affected use as promptly as reasonably practicable and in any event: (a) within 30 days for digital materials you control; and (b) for badge use inside a shipped Exported Game binary, no later than your next update, provided you stop using the mark in new marketing immediately. You need not recall physical media already sold where the use was compliant when made. 12.4 Revocation of trademark permission does not, by itself, terminate your rights under the Exported Game Runtime License to continue distributing an Exported Game without the badges.
13. Reservation of rights
All rights not expressly granted are reserved. These Guidelines do not license any copyright in Summer's games, software, artwork or content (see the Fan Content Policy and the Asset Library License Terms), any patent, or any third-party marks that appear in the Press Kit or the Services. Summer may enforce its rights at its discretion; failure to act on a misuse is not a waiver.
14. Changes to these Guidelines
We may update these Guidelines, including by adding or retiring marks and badge formats. The current version governs new uses; for previously compliant in-market uses we provide the transition period in Section 6.5 or Section 12.3, as applicable, unless the use creates legal risk requiring immediate cessation.
