## About this template

Third-person shooters live in the space between mobility and survival. Players sprint between cover objects, peak to fire, and dodge rolls become as important as aiming. The camera behind the shoulder means every combat space is readable at a glance. Good encounter design rewards players who move intelligently.

Summer Engine helps you build the mechanics that make cover feel tactical and movement feel expressive. Describe how you want the player to move, what the weapon roster looks like, and what kind of enemies force different approaches. The AI turns those answers into a working game foundation.

The most memorable third-person shooters give players a character they believe in and situations that test that character. Whether you are building a narrative-driven action game or a pure combat experience, the systems you describe today become the prototype you test tomorrow.

## Who it's for

* Solo devs building a character-driven action game who need a functional third-person combat foundation.
* Teams prototyping a cover-based shooter and want to test encounter design before building custom levels.
* Designers inspired by Gears of War, Max Payne, or Vanquish who want to build their own take on the genre.
* Anyone making a third-person action-adventure that needs a shooter layer to complement traversal and story.

## Highlights

* ### Cover Combat Prototype
Test cover-to-cover movement, weapon feel, and enemy placement in a blocked-out arena before investing in environment art.
* ### Character Action Demo
Build a vertical slice centered on a specific playable character with a defined weapon set and personality expressed through animations.
* ### Co-op Shooter Foundation
Create a co-op ready game where two players coordinate positioning, revive each other, and take on tougher enemy formations together.

## Highlights

### Over-the-shoulder camera

The camera sits behind and above the player character. Players see themselves and the environment at once, making positioning intuitive.

### Cover system

Players snap to waist-high objects, peak to fire, and blind-fire without exposing themselves. Moving between cover points becomes a tactical decision.

### Dodge and mobility

A dodge roll or sprint-slide lets players break from cover and reposition. Timing a dodge through enemy fire creates moments of mastery.

### Weapon variety

Players switch between weapons suited to different ranges and situations. Close-quarters shotguns, mid-range rifles, and long-range snipers each change how players approach an encounter.

## Features

* ### Third-person character controller
Players move in 360 degrees with a camera that stays behind the character. Aiming mode locks the camera over the shoulder for precision shots. Lock-on targeting assists console players.
* ### Dynamic cover system
Players press a button to enter cover behind tagged objects. They can peak left or right, fire while exposed, blind-fire for suppression, or vault over the cover to advance.
* ### Weapon and ability loadout
Players carry two primary weapons and a sidearm. Special abilities like grenades, smoke bombs, or temporary shields are on cooldowns. Ammo is scarce enough to encourage switching weapons.
* ### Enemy aggression system
Enemies coordinate their approach: some flank, some suppress, some throw grenades to flush players from cover. Difficulty scales by adjusting how aggressively enemies coordinate.
