# You own your game. You can launch it wherever you want.

We want you to choose Summer because it is a good place to make and share your game. You keep your creative direction and your choice of where the game goes.

- Code + assets
- Exported game
- Your chosen destination

Your project, your distribution choice. Each destination and service has its own requirements.

[Read the export guide](https://docs.summerengine.com/api-reference/summer-sdk/exporting-and-uploading-your-game)

## Make a game with its own identity.

A 2D game, a 3D world, a tiny experiment or something ambitious: your game should look and feel like the thing you want to make. It should not have to inherit one platform’s style or audience.

Summer provides tools and infrastructure. You bring the ideas, the art direction, the stories and the decisions that make the experience yours. Your code and the assets you create belong to you, subject to the rights attached to any third-party work you use.

## The engine, the store, Sparks and mods are separate choices.

It should be clear what you are choosing each time you use a part of Summer. Building with the engine is one decision. Publishing on Summer Games is another. Joining the creator program or opening your game to mods should not be silently bundled into either one.

- Use Summer Engine to build your game with your preferred agent or Summer AI.
- Choose where to publish the game.
- Choose whether to participate in the Sparks economy.
- Choose whether to let people make and share mods.

## We want Summer Games to earn its place in your workflow.

We built the player destination so you can share a game, get feedback and keep improving it close to the people playing. We want that to be a good reason to launch here.

You can also choose another store or distribution channel. Growing a community on Summer does not mean giving up the possibility of taking your game elsewhere. We admire the platforms that made gaming what it is, and we want your choices to stay open.

## Export for the destination you choose.

A distribution choice becomes real through a build that works for that destination. Export requirements can include the right templates, platform tools, signing and store review. A game needs to be tested on the targets it supports.

The export and compatibility documentation explain that work. Owning the project gives you the choice; it does not mean every possible platform is automatically qualified by the same build.

## Know which parts of the game have their own terms.

You can own the work you create while also using assets licensed from someone else, an engine runtime and hosted services. Those dependencies keep their own requirements. Credit and permission matter when you incorporate other people’s work.

The game is also distinct from services such as hosted multiplayer or Sparks. Exporting the game does not automatically move those services into another store or make that store support them. Check the requirements for the version you intend to distribute.

## Let other people build on your work when you want them to.

Inviting people to mod a game can be a creative choice in its own right. You might want to see new worlds, different rules or an idea you would never have made yourself.

That invitation starts with your permission and clear terms for contributors. Publishing a game does not automatically open it to modification, and playing it does not automatically grant a right to redistribute it.

## Choose where the first players will find your game.

Summer Games is one way to share your work and build with player feedback. See how that connects to the project you are making.
