# Turn your character into an animated sprite sheet

Give your hero a run, your explorer a walk, or your slime a bounce. Start from a character idea or your own reference and choose the moves for your game.

The short answer

Create a sprite sheet from a character prompt or a reference image in Summer Engine. Choose Idle, Run, Walk, Punch or a custom motion. Each animation becomes an 8-frame PNG on a 4 by 2 grid, ready to take into your animation workflow.

Choose a character idea below to fill an editable prompt, or start with your own. Opening an idea does not start generation. Generation uses credits and the account access shown in Studio.

## Choose a character idea

Pick an idea and make it yours. Each opens the generator with an editable character prompt.

[Platformer hero Start with a side-view adventurer, then choose the moves your platformer needs in Studio. Open](https://www.summerengine.com/studio?tab=image&mode=spritesheet&prompt=A+small+side-view+platformer+adventurer+with+a+red+scarf+and+a+simple+readable+silhouette.+One+full-body+character%2C+centered%2C+with+no+text+or+scene.)

[RPG explorer Give a fantasy explorer a look, then bring it to life with a walk, run or custom move. Open](https://www.summerengine.com/studio?tab=image&mode=spritesheet&prompt=A+fantasy+explorer+with+a+short+green+cloak%2C+boots+and+a+small+shoulder+bag.+One+full-body+character%2C+centered%2C+with+a+clear+silhouette+and+no+text+or+scene.)

[Slime enemy Try a simple creature. Choose a preset move or describe its motion in the form. Open](https://www.summerengine.com/studio?tab=image&mode=spritesheet&prompt=A+small+round+slime+enemy+with+two+large+eyes+and+a+simple+readable+shape.+One+character%2C+centered+and+fully+visible%2C+with+no+text+or+scene.)

How it works

## How the sprite sheet generator works

From one character to a set of moves in three steps.

### 1\. Start with a character

Describe a character or add your own reference. Without a reference, Studio first generates one character image for the animation tasks.

### 2\. Choose its moves

Run is selected initially. Add Idle, Walk, Punch or a custom motion, then press Generate. Each selected move uses the same character reference.

### 3\. Take it into your game

Download the sheets for your animation workflow, or import them from Studio with a project open in the Summer Engine desktop app.

Motions

## Choose an animation

Build a set for your character, from a quiet idle to an attack. Choose one or several moves.

### Idle

Give your character an idle loop. This is separate from the still character reference.

### Run

A run to the right for a side-view character. This is the initial selection.

### Walk

A walk to the right for explorers, townspeople and side-view adventures.

### Punch

A punch to the right for a brawler or action character.

### Custom

Describe a slime bouncing, a character raising a staff, or another clear action.

Export

## Bring the animation into your engine

The output is a PNG grid with 4 columns and 2 rows. Slice it by grid and set up playback in your engine.

For AI agents

## Prepare the Studio form with an AI agent

Use the Summer Engine MCP to fill the Studio prompt and motion controls with your AI agent.

### Describe your character

Turn a character idea into a filled Studio prompt.

```
Fill the sprite-sheet prompt with a small slime enemy with two large eyes.
```

### Choose the motion

Select a preset move or add a custom action in the same form.

```
Select Walk and add a custom bouncing motion for the slime.
```

Honest limits

## A few things to know

### Generated frames need a look

Character details, poses and alignment can vary. Check the sheet before use; a simpler motion can help.

### Background removal

The workflow removes the background. Inspect the edges for leftover pixels or missing details.

### PNG output

Each animation is an 8-frame PNG grid, without a JSON atlas or character controller. Set up cropping, frame order and playback in your engine.

## AI sprite sheet generator FAQ

How do I start a sprite sheet?

Choose a character idea on this page or open the generator. Describe a character or add your own reference, choose its motions, then press Generate in Studio.

Does choosing an idea start generation?

No. It fills an editable character prompt. Generation starts when you press Generate in Studio.

Is generation free?

Generation uses credits and the account access shown in Studio. Opening the form does not generate or spend credits.

Can I use my own character image?

Yes. Add your character as a reference image. Studio can animate from that reference; without one, it first generates a character image.

Which animations can I choose?

Idle, Run, Walk, Punch and custom motions. Run, Walk and Punch use right-facing motion prompts. Each animation sheet has 8 frames on a 4 by 2 grid.

Can I request pixel art?

Yes. Describe a pixel-art character and the look you want in the prompt.

Can I use the result in another engine?

Download the PNG and configure its grid and playback in your engine. Studio also has an import action for an open Summer Engine desktop project.
